This unique sport demands that competitors improvise their moves live, all to the beat of music they’ve never heard before. Referred to as ‘B-Boys’ and ‘B-Girls’, these elite performers require a level of creativity and athleticism that is unlike any other Olympic sport.
Jeff Dunne, also known as “J-Attack,” is a name to remember. At just 16 years old, this breaking prodigy from Casuarina in northern NSW has already established himself as a master of his craft. On a road paved with remarkable achievements, Jeff secured his spot on the 2024 Australian Olympic team by winning gold at the Oceania Breaking Championships at Sydney Town Hall in November 2023. This incredible victory saw him outshine 37 competitors from nations including Papua New Guinea, New Zealand, Fiji, and Australia.
For those new to the sport, breaking competitions are decided by judge scores, similar to gymnastics or diving. Breakers are judged on their creativity, personality, technique, variety, performativity, and musicality. Competitors must excel in all these areas to succeed. That’s why Jeff sticks to a strict diet and daily training routine, which includes four to six hours of practice, as a testament to his commitment to mastering each aspect of the sport.
