Meet Our Athlete: Ariarne Titmus

“One message for younger athletes is that it doesn’t matter where you come from whether it a big city or small town, if you dream big, work hard and truly believe in yourself you can achieve anything. I came from a small city in the coldest part of the country- not typical breeding grounds for swimmers. But my belief in myself to make it on the big stage never wavered.”

Now a veritable Australian swimming icon, Harvey Norman is thrilled to continue supporting Ariarne Titmus in her quest for glory at the 2024 Paris Summer Games. A Harvey Norman brand ambassador since 2020, It’s difficult to overstate the significance of Titmus’ incredible career.

From humble beginnings in Launceston Tasmania, Titmus has risen to become one of the most formidable swimmers of her generation. Driven by her passion for the sport, she trained tirelessly from a young age under the guidance of various coaches. It wasn’t until 2018 when Titmus would emerge as an international threat, taking home three gold medals at the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, as well as multiple national titles at other events.

It was clear to all paying attention that Titmus was a name to watch out for and it seemed fated that she would soon find herself in a head-to-head showdown with the then number one ranked Katie Ledecky. This dream race would take place at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships in Gwangju, South Korea. Anticipation was high, and the race met every expectation with Titmus stunning the world by outtouching Ledecky in a thrilling 400m freestyle final. This was Ledecky’s first international loss in such an event in seven years, and it cemented Titmus, as a household name, and as a world champion.

Since partnering with Harvey Norman, Titmus has gone on to break records and win multiple medals at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics: two gold, one silver, and one bronze. Having recently set the Women’s 400m Freestyle World Record, outpacing her rival by 0.6 seconds, Ariarne is looking to continue making waves in the world of swimming as she heads to the Paris Games later this year.

Harvey Norman will be cheering Titmus on for every step of her incredible journey. You can track Titmus’ progress by following her Instagram.
